"Madam Speaker, I wanted to take the opportunity today to address you, my colleagues, and friends here today and bid you a fond farewell. I mean, I'm going to be here for the next two days, but these are my last days so I wanted to just share a few words, if you'd be so kind."

"Very few, Madam Speaker. I wanted to say I remember walking on here on this floor for the first time and I was awestruck entering this room where it happens. A room that’s been the site of so much history. Seeing our priceless portraits of Lincoln, of Douglas, admiring the desks, rostrum, the chandeliers, but the true beauty of the room are all of you, the people inside of it. People from all over our state who are here to try to improve the lives of people they represent. People with diverse views based on their diverse districts and people who truly want to make a difference. And when we work together, we do pretty amazing things. I've truly enjoyed working with each of you the men and women of this chamber and built lifelong friendships here on both sides of the aisle and we've gotten a few good things done. I'm proud to have worked to pass 19 Bills, 15 of them becoming the law of the land that take small important steps toward more efficient, effective, and responsive government. The small steps won't appear on the 10:00 news, they won't be on the front page of the paper, and they won't be clickbait for social media, but enough of the small change allows us to realize big lasting change for our state. To close, I just want to thank the many people who supported me over these years, I want to thank the Republican and Democratic Caucus staff, LRB, the Clerk's office, and everyone who makes the chamber work. I want to thank my district legislative assistant, Lynn Bila, and my communication staffer, Cheryl Meyer, who've spent countless hours making me look good and making me able to represent and serve my constituents.
