"Before I start, I just want to say this is about the fourth or fifth time that I've been here, and this is the second time that I came here following a mass shooting. And I'm a survivor of a mass shooting. And it really… we have to start praying there first. So, join me please. Father, I just want to pray for your comfort for the families in Colorado who've gone through another travesty. I pray, Father God, that the evil that's in our country and the hearts of people that you would wash it clean. Please, as Leaders, political Leaders, societal Leaders, you give us wisdom and we're to turn with this to bring civility, and compassion, and mercy to the forefront. Father, I just also pray that you would actually heal our nation. Heal our nation of violence. Heal our nation of addictions. Heal our nation. Twenty-seven year old Kierra Coles went missing on October 2 of last year. Nineteen year old Marlen Ochoa went missing on April 23 of this year. And 43 year Chaunti Bryla went missing on March 7. At this time… at the time of their disappearances, Kierra Coles was three months pregnant, Ochoa was nine months pregnant. Both of their due dates have already passed. Bryla is the mother of an 11 year old son. And this is doubly troubling as we enter Mother's Day weekend. I cannot imagine the pain that these families are currently enduring. For those of you who believe in a higher power, I ask that you continue to pray for these young women. And I also ask that you try to include them in your social media posts, in addition to your thoughts and prayers. These women may not be from your district, your city, or even your region, you may not have a familio civic or social connection to them but they all belong to all of us. As their families pray, hope, search, and endure, it's incumbent upon us in this Body to support them by shining a light on their disappearances and doing all that we can to pray that these young women and their babies return home safely and unharmed. "I rise today to remember the life of DeKalb County State's Attorney Stacia Hollinshead of Sycamore, who was brutally killed by her ex-husband March 23, 2019. Stacia was born August 20, 1988 in Effingham, Illinois, the daughter of John and Ann Webster Hollinshead. Stacia was the fourth child of five born into the family and she grew up with three sisters and one brother in rural Dieterich, Illinois. From an early age she was tenacious, passionate, an ambitious young woman, eager to help others. She graduated from Northern Illinois University College of Law with a Juris Doctorate in 2018. And while at NIU, she was editor of the College Law's Law Review and a member of Phi Alpha Data… Delta. During her time in law school, she was involved with CASA in both Kane County and Effingham County. And as an Assistant State's Attorney in Dekalb County, Stacia made a positive impact on the lives of many people in our community and was universally liked and very well respected. She enjoyed the outdoors and states parks, as well as attending the Rockford and Chicago Symphony Orchestras. Stacia leaves behind her beloved five year old daughter Odyssia, her heartbroken parents, four siblings, as well as many other relatives, friends, and community partners. I add my voice to those who mourn her passing and those who celebrate her life. We must do more to protect the victims of domestic violence and prevent future tragedies like this from happening.
