The boys soccer team faced off Morton, securing the Class 3A soccer championship, and their title as state champions. The Morton Mustangs had not lost to an Illinois team prior to this final championship, and the West Chicago Wildcats did not advance past regionals in the 2018 season, making this win significant. Actually, Coach Villa, I believe, was part of that team those years ago who had come close to winning. So, as a coach, it was really momentous for him and the rest of his coaches. On February 15, 2019, a disgruntled former employee of the Henry Pratt Company in Aurora opened fire inside the warehouse, killing five fellow employees and wounding another. Five police officers were also shot and wounded while responding to the incident before the gunman was killed in a shootout with law enforcement. We must remember and honor the victims of this senseless act of violence. Clayton Parks, Trevor Wehner, Russell Beyer, Vicenete Juarez, Josh Pinkard. Let us also honor Timothy Williams, who was wounded by the gunman while running to warn other employees of the shooting. The gunman responsible for this evil act of terror was also… was able to obtain the gun he used to wound and kill innocent victims through a loophole in our FOID system. Despite being convicted of an aggravated assault in 1995 in the State of Mississippi, the gunman obtained a FOID card in January 2014. Katherine Goble Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Christine Darden, who in a time when black women faced seemingly insurmountable obstacles, went to work as calculators at NASA. With pencils, paper, and slide rules they transformed airplane, rocket, and satellite designs and helped ensure a World War II victory. Despite the social and political climate at the height of Jim Crowe, these women rose up and became integral to the project that put the first man on the moon, from World War II to the Cold War, to the Civil Rights Movement, to the Space Race, these remarkable women's contributions to science led to some of NASA's greatest successes. Katherine Goble Johnson was a mathematician who exhibited such skills since childhood, a wonder child. She was the one who performed all of the math. Katherine Johnson went on to perform calculations for the Apollo II Mission to the moon and space shuttle. In 2016, NASA dedicated the Katherine G. Johnson Computation Building in honor of her groundbreaking work in space travel. She became the backbone of NASA in terms of her mathematical calculations for exact locations needed for space travel. Dorothy Vaughan became the first ever African American supervisor in NASA. Since she was a Fortran specialist, the best in electronics computing, she was known to be one of NASA's most brilliant minds. "Madam Speaker, as we tote major victories and sales and recreational cannabis to the tune of $40 million in one month, and as a snowstorm fast approaches our state, it has come to my attention that the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, LIHEAP, is in serious jeopardy. It is my understanding that the administration has swept or borrowed close to $30 million from the fund. This is not the first time that this has occurred. In the mid-2010s, $70 million was taken from the fund and was not required to be repaid. As you know, Madam Speaker, the utility companies provide financial resources for the fund. Every month, they collect a surcharge from their customers and send that money directly to the fund.
