About 350 of their members rode to the Capitol from all parts of Illinois. As I'm sure many of you know, each year ABATE honors one of us as their Legislator of the year. Last year, due to COVID, they were unable to honor their winner. So, on Sunday, two of our Members were so recognized. The honoree of this very coveted award for 2020 is Representative Stephanie Kifowit. The honoree for 2021 is Representative Tim Butler. There is a Stop the Violence rally today at 5:00, being hosted by Earth's Remedies, which is an organization that I work with on the West Side of Chicago. But I just want everybody to take a moment of silence for her family and for this young girl who has lost her life way too soon."

We have Bills that we're working on every day, trying to make education better. We're not the only two. There's Representative Carroll that was a teacher. We've got… Representative Ford was a teacher. And I'm sure there are others that I'm just not thinking of. Oh, Representative Hirschauer was a teacher. So, we all know what it's like to be in the trenches. And from the deepest part of our heart, we all want to say thank you to our teachers. You don't hear it often enough, but we in the General Assembly appreciate everything you do and everything you have been through with COVID. And please ignore the naysayers and know that we have your back.
