"Thank you, Madam Speaker. Speaking of backlogs, wanted to give a quick update on a Resolution, a bipartisan Resolution that I introduced a couple weeks ago regarding our unemployment office. As many of us know, we received calls every day, every week regarding unemployment claims. Sometimes from fraudulent issues. Sometimes it's just people trying to apply for unemployment for the first time. Other times they have a more complicated issue. I've gotten calls just in the last week with unemployment claims that are dating back to February that have yet to be fixed. We had Chrysler employees, UAW employees who are claiming for the first time and who aren't getting calls back. And as many of you know, there's over 20 people that have signed on to House Resolution 226, asking for unemployment offices to reopen immediately. Why they are not open still befuddles me. I got some information recently regarding the Secretary of State, Jesse White's office has over 122 local agency offices. And my understanding is just about every single one is open for in- person appointments. Some have been closed for various reasons temporarily. A couple have taken appointments only, but they're still open to the walk-in customers, our residents, our citizens of Illinois. In fact, just two weeks ago, I stopped by a Secretary of State office to renew my driver's license and there was 30 people in line taking care of issues that they needed through the Secretary of State. I was happy to have my 16 year old, his birthday is today. Why are unemployment offices… are still closed? There's no excuse for it. I don't know if this Body needs to do a draft Jesse White, since he's heading into retirement, but maybe we can ask Jesse to take over the unemployment offices so that we can get them operating again for in-person. I'd encourage everybody in the Body, if you'd like to sign on to this Resolution to open up our unemployment offices, please do so. Just one last comment. We don't even have a date. The director of the unemployment office, the Governor's Office hasn't even said when unemployment offices are going to open. I had a member of the media reach out to me, and they said, 'Well, we heard some comment that sometime later in the summer the unemployment offices might open.' Us, as a legislative Body, as a coequal branch of government, need to demand more. Let's get together an open up our unemployment offices now. Thank you, Madam Speaker."
