"I have a point of personal privilege which people in here will probably like. Tomorrow before Session, I'd like to invite you, if you're hungry, to come out to Monroe Street beside the Capitol. The Daily Special Food Truck, which serves immigrant and refugee communities in my area and along the north shore, is coming down to Springfield to serve us. It's a great community service. They will have lunches for everyone on both sides of the aisle and our staffs. So, they'll be here from about 11 to 2. I just want to point out these are also folks that will be staffed by people from my district, Joyce Mason's district, and Rita Mayfield's district. And all the proceeds this organizations develops goes to serve homeless people in the City of Chicago. So, please join us."

Many of those workers live and work in my district at one of the many UAW Locals in the Quad Cities. They're taking the significant step of withholding their labor until they are offered a contract that recognizes the value that they contribute to the company. And it… I've been happy with promoting John Deere and supporting the company over my time here in the House. But it is possible for them to be a world-class company because of the skilled union workforce that puts these agricultural implements together and ships them to their purchasers across the globe. Even during the current pandemic, the company has forecasted in May a profit of $5.7 billion for the 2021 fiscal year, more than double the profit that they saw in 2020. These skilled workers at their plants that, hour by hour, put together the harvesters and other equipment that earn these profits deserve an equitable share in those profits. Instead, the company's offer further reduces pension security and includes wages that will not allow these workers to maintain the middle class lifestyle that they have earned. So, it's my hope that the company will come back to the negotiating table, put people over profits, and reach a fair agreement with its employees. In the meantime, please join me in support of these workers. There's a rally tonight at 5:30 up in the Quad Cities. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
