And I'd love for all of you to join me in this celebration. The month of May was chosen to commemorate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month to mark the first arrival of Japanese immigrants on May 7, 1843, and also, the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad on May 10, 1869, through the incredible efforts of mostly Chinese immigrant workers. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are the fastest growing racial and ethnic minority group in the country. And in Illinois… Illinois is home to more than 870 thousand Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, according to the most recent American Community Survey data. The four largest communities that represent the… represented are the South Asians, Filipino Americans, Chinese Americans, and Korean Americans. In our rich history, there are stories of heroes that are not often referenced in our U.S. history books. We have the likes of Dalip Saund Singh… Singh Saund, who was the first Asian American elected to Congress; Fred Korematsu, a champion of civil liberties and of… who spoke up against Japanese American internment during World War II; Larry Dulay Itliong, who was a hero of the labor movement and worked alongside Cesar Chavez; Grace Lee Boggs and Patsy Mink, who… an activist and a Member of Congress, respectively, who both were transformative forces in shaping… in the shaping of Title IX. "Thank you. I just want to briefly bring attention to the Body. At Millikin University yesterday, there was a really great event, it's called The Nick Project. And they get fire safety equipment to students who live in fraternity and sorority houses and other off-campus housing. The Nick Project was started in honor of the late son of my district director, Brenda Roosevelt. Tragically, Nick died in a house fire while he was a student at Millikin University. And this is a very important project that means a lot to the family that it's has been able to endure. I'm trying to work with all of our other universities, public and private and independent, across the state, thinking this would be a wonderful program to institute. So, hopefully, I can gain the support of everyone here to spread the word of The Nick Project and help save more lives. Thank you."

"Thank you, again, Mr. Speaker. HB3296 adjusts the fee cap for credit unions according to CPI from approximately $140 thousand to $210 thousand. This is an agreed Bill between IDFPR and the Credit Union League, and there is no opposition that I'm aware of. Similar to banks, just for context, credit unions pay for regulation of their industry. So, the credit union fee cap has not been adjusted since 2008 and audit findings have shown that IDFPR staffing levels for the purposes of regulation to be insufficient. Illinois already has one of the lowest ratios of regulators per credit union in the country, and we currently only have 6 examiners per 100 credit unions, compared to a state like California that has 31 regulators per 100 credit unions. As this Body well knows, we've seen what can happen when our financial industry is not properly regulated. So, this is a necessary fee adjustment to protect Illinoisans. I ask for an 'aye' vote."

What two of my favorite… two of my sports heroes growing up were Bill Russell and Billy Pierce. First baseball game I ever went to with my dad, Billy Pierce pitched against Whitey Ford. What this Resolution does is it urges the golden era committee of the Baseball Hall of Fame to put Billy Pierce in his rightful place alongside the greats of major league baseball because Billy Pierce pitched for the Chicago White Sox when the Chicago White Sox were the second- best team in baseball. And, unfortunately, this best team in baseball was the hated New York Yankees. I came out of my mother's womb hating the New York Yankees. If you take the statistics of Billy Pierce and put them up against the statistics of a fellow named Whitey Ford, you see that they're almost the same by all the metrics that… that measure pitching success in the major leagues. The only difference is the fact that Whitey Ford had a whole bunch of World Series championships and Billy Peirce only appeared in one for the White Sox and then two for the San Francisco Giants. What I'm asking you to do today is join me in telling the… that their… in telling the Baseball Hall of Fame that there has been a grave error made and that the great Billy Pierce belongs in Cooperstown with three other White Sox pitchers whose… are in… are in the Hall of Fame whose numbers are also about the same.
