That means new taxes on things like beauty services, streaming apps, dry cleaning, handyman services, plumbing, pet grooming, car repair, and even your nails. This hurts working families, seniors, and small businesses the most. A single mom gets home from work to find a broken dishwasher and has to hire a repairman, now gets taxed. An elderly couple hires lawn care services, now gets taxed. "Thank you, Leader-Speaker. The point of personal privilege today is about somebody who is in our Speaker's Gallery, standing up, Serena Bolden. Serena's the daughter of one of our doorkeepers, Dwight Bolden. And at the age of 23… there's Dwight. Everyone knows Dwight. At the age of 23, she already makes me feel like I haven't accomplished anything in my life because she is such an incredible young lady. And I wanted to recognize her for a few of her incredible accomplishments at the age, again, of just 23. So, Serena's going to go down in history as one of Illinois' greatest athletes. Again, 23, I'm going to keep reminding you. Her performance at the 2019 girls state track and field meet has only been accomplished by four athletes since the state track meet started in the 1970s. She won four individual events as a member of the Springfield Southeast girls track team. Serena won the long jump, triple jump, 100 meter, and 200 meters. She was named by the Springfield State Journal Register as the Regional Athlete of the Year, probably of this century, but that's just my bias. Her outstanding performance has spanned over 18 years, although, again, she is only 23. She's got a lot of different accomplishments here I'm going to talk about. 2019 Sports Illustrated top five nationally notable athletes, 2022 member of LSU State fourth place national championship team, 2024 third place Big Tens in the long jump while in law school. She's doing this while she's in law school at Indiana State University. This policy opens the door for abuse, and the victims will be our most vulnerable: people with developmental disabilities, seniors who feel like a burden, and those without family or support. They will be the ones who get pushed aside. In fact, in fact, I had a visit from the Murray Center today tell me that her daughter was placed in hospice, in hospice nine years ago. Yet, this spring, she attended her first prom. Would we get stories like this with assisted suicide being legalized? No words from me, no words from me can replace the videos and the pictures that are coming out of Gaza. Go look online. Search the hashtags. Look at the videos of the starving children. Look at the videos of the children grieving over their mothers and their fathers. Look at the pictures, the videos of the parents grieving over their eight-year-old children who have been killed by bombs that our country is sending. Those… they were exhausted. They ran out of food back in March. This is called forced starvation. This is called forced starvation, and there's being supported not only by the United States government supplying Israel with weapons, but also by our own state, which I will circle back to in a moment. Let me say something else. The population of Gaza, 70% of them or more are refugees living… living in refugee camps when… because their families, their grandparents were forced out of their homes on Nakba Day. And they went to refugee camps all over the world, including to Gaza, where 70% of the… of the population are refugees. And so, we… this isn't only about the genocide over the last 500-plus days. It's also about 77 years of forced expulsion, of forced expulsion. And I hear it from colleagues sometimes, 'What does this have to do with the State of Illinois? That's a federal issue.' "Well, that's a lot to go after. This is going back to the true work of, I think, my… my district, Cairo's unit… Cairo School District. We had a problem in Cairo where they had a superintendent that was hired, fired, and hired, and they inappropriately gave severance pays. And they couldn't fill the position, so they had to hire him again. And after he was hired again, they went ahead and paid the severance pay along with a regular paycheck. Now, that came up to 67% over administrative costs, which I know are going to go into the let's increased taxes roll on a county of 5,000 people. We can't afford it. So, the whole… the whole leadership agreed that it's not something we should do. It was voted on unanimously in the Senate. It was voted on unanimously in committee in the House, and I would request that we go ahead and deny this because of the possibility of increased taxes. But there is also another way that's been suggested to them to reduce that 67% over… overage all the way down to 9%, which we would agree with. They can't do this again next year. Yes, sir. Yes.
