"Thank you. Last month, I spoke on the floor about the heroic action of two young men in Nashville. Up in the Speaker's well, we have these two young men standing here today, Daven Goforth (sic-Hug) and Aaron Hug (sic-Goforth). On April 23, around 10:30 p.m., Andy and Daven were on their way home when they noticed smoke billowing from the second floor of the senior apartments in Nashville. They called 911. But instead of waiting for them to arrive, they selflessly ran into the building and started evacuating residents. When they entered, they could hear residents screaming for help. They were heroically notifying and evacuating residents, jumping into action in harm's way to no doubt save lives. Because of their action, no lives were lost. And as of this day, everyone has recovered from injuries suffered because of the fire. Without the quick and heroic action of Andy and Daven, God only knows how tragic this could have been. I'm honored to have Andy and Daven as my guests in the Speaker's Gallery today and have filed House Resolution 342 as a token of our appreciation for their lifesaving actions. After this, they said they'd… would like to maybe be a fireman and a policeman. And one of the people they saved was… was Sheila, their grandma… one of their grandmas. "Mr. Speaker and Members of the House, we just honored those lives that were given as the ultimate sacrifice. And the day before Memorial Day, we lost a… a iconic individual in the City of Aurora. Dick Miller was 98 years old. He was a World War II veteran. He served as the 2024 Memorial Day Parade Grand Marshal, and he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 during World War II. He survived the sinking of the U.S.S. Drexler off the coast of Okinawa in 1945. He received both the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star for his valiant efforts while serving his country, and I just wanted to take a brief moment to recognize him. He was 98 years old. His birthday was next month, and he said he wanted to skip 99 and round up to 100. That was his disposition and his eternal smile on his face. And with that, Mr. Speaker, I'm not going to ask for a moment of silence 'cause he was never silent. He was always jovial, he was always happy, and he was loving life to the fullest. So, I just ask everybody in the body to live life to the fullest and try to do the best we can with the years that we have on this earth. Carol is like a mother to me and like many others in our area. Carol lives life to the fullest and is a proud mom of three boys, proud grandmother, and proud great-grandmother. And in the United States, 35 to 45,000 cases of Lyme disease are reported to CDC, which is estimated to be 10 times less of what it actually is. I… I had a recent report from FAIR Health, an agency that collects insurance data. In the State of Illinois, the… our Illinois Department of Public Health reported 259 cases for the month… for year 2022. FAIR Health, I collected data for them. They reported from 2019 to 2023, reported over 28,000 patients. FAIR Health calculates how many patients saw the doctor and then they also take that information, how many claims… or insurance codes were claimed against those patients. FAIR Health reported 296,340 medical claims for those 28,187 people. Lyme disease is real. Lyme disease occurs in all of our neighborhoods. Lyme disease, we've got counties reporting as high as 71% of the ticks collected in those… that county as being tested positive for Lyme. Spinal muscular atrophy is a terrible medical condition where a… a young person is born, and the nervous system between the brain and the legs do not properly form, so the individual is unable to use their legs. Its effects, an estimated 1 in 11,000 babies are born with spinal muscular atrophy. The intent of this resolution is to recognize August as Spinal Muscular Atrophy Awareness Month. What we normally do, I coordinate with the Galesburg Fire Department and we tie this together with the muscular dystrophy drive and fundraising 'Fill the Boot.' And the proceeds from 'Fill the Boot' go towards research for MDA and also spinal muscular atrophy. So, this is a… I've got a young girl in my district who has spinal… or who has spinal muscular atrophy, SMA. At one time, she was receiving treatments on a quarterly basis of over $500,000 for the… for the medical care.
