Sunderland; and whereas, Mr. Sunderland, a long-time resident of Newton, Illinois served as Representative from the 46th District from 1932 until 1936; and whereas, before becoming a Member of the General Assembly, Mr. Sunderland served his country overseas in the Army's 4th Division during World War I and later became a teacher and principal at Newton Community High School; and whereas, after serving two distinguished terms in this House, Mr. Sunderland went on to become the leader of Newton's business community; and whereas, Mr. Sunderland, a member of Newton American Legion Post Number 16 and the Royal Arch Masons, was also an energetic and dedicated civic leader; and whereas, Mr. Sunderland was preceded in death by Sarah, his loving wife of 50 years, and survived by his two children, Glenn W. Sunderland of Newton and Nita Kay Sunderland of Peoria and two grandchildren.
