"Good afternoon. It is an honor for me represent the Lady Irish of Seneca. It's my pleasure to introduce each member of this state championship team. First, we have ... Beck ... When we are behind, she always comes in, and it seems like we're on top again. Dawn Berkland, she was hurt halfway through the season, but she was one of our better shooters. Mary Carrier, she's our defensive specialist. She's one of our quickest players, and she's our long range shooter. Linda Cosmutto, she's our playmaker, and it always seemed she got the key steal or the great pass when we needed it. Janet Jenkins, she's our intimidator. She's unstoppable underneath the basket, and she's one of our most poised players. Denise Kasten, she does the little things on the court, and she's always hustling and giving 100 percent. Julie Leininger, she's always smiling and has good words of advice. She was probably our most improved player throughout the season. Joyce Maierhofer, she's our cheerleader from the bench, and she was one of our best shooters from the outside. Jeannette Widman, our quietest player, but she gets the job done when she's called upon. She is known for her defense and her rebounding. And Kelly Yeck, our youngest player, but although she might be the youngest, she plays like a senior. She's one of our... one of our best defensive players, and she's known for her free throws. Whereas, the Seneca Lady Irish of Seneca Township High School completed their 1986-87 basketball season undefeated; and whereas, in the state girls' basketball finals, the 11 member team faced formidable opponents whose combined record was 113 wins and 1 loss; and whereas, the Lady Irish handed Carthage-Hancock Central girls' basketball team their only defeat of the year; and whereas, the final score of the championship game at the Assembly Hall in Champaign was 54-47; and whereas, this victory clinched the 1987 IHSA Girls' Class A Basketball Championship for the Lady Irish; and whereas, the trophy the team took home on Saturday, February 28, 1987 was a crowning glory to 10 years of girls' basketball at Seneca Township High School; therefore, be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the 85th General Assembly of the State of Illinois that we do hereby congratulate... congratulate the Seneca Lady Irish on their state basketball championship, and be it further resolved that we wish the team members and coaches continued prosperity."
