Leon. WHEREAS, born in Chicago on March 9, 1910, Mr. Leon attended public elementary and high schools in the city. WHEREAS, he served as Precinct Committeeman for 35 years and held the offices of President, Secretary and Treasurer of the 36th Ward Regular Democrat Organization. WHEREAS, Mr. Leon was also a Member of the 35th Regular Democrat Organization. WHEREAS, first elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in 1959, John Leon served the 17th District in the 71st, 72nd, 73rd, 74th, 77th, 78th, 79th, 80th, 81st and 2nd General Assemblies. WHEREAS, he gave us his leadership as Chairman of the Financial Institutions Committee in the 79th and 81st General Assemblies and as spokesman of the Financial Institution Committee in the 82nd General Assembly. WHEREAS, John and his wife served for many years... John and his wife lived for many years on North Tripp Avenue in Chicago, raising son John, Jr. there. WHEREAS, always active in civic affairs, John participated in the Saint Philomena Holy Name Society in Commodore Barry Council of Knights of Columbus of the City Club of Chicago. He was an elected delegate to the 6th Illinois Constitutional Convention. And WHEREAS, he served with dedication to help others by choosing a career in public service. He was deeply concerned for the welfare of children, the poor and the elderly. But during that campaign he was a total Gentleman, one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet and just a real credit to his community, to his family.
