They told us on a House floor that day, that the trucks had already been sent out and no matter what we done about it, these offices would be closed. Especially down in the southern part of the State we've got 22 counties down there right now with a lot of Representatives; Representative Rea, Representative Phelps, myself; you know we... we have to drive 200 miles to see the veterans. "Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Ladies and Gentlemen of the House, as one of the Sponsors of the Resolution, I strongly support it. I felt it was a mistake when the offices were closed and in my portion of the State and in many other portions of the State, especially where it's a rural area, many of our veterans will have to travel quite a distance cannot do it because of financial reasons, because of the handicaps that they may have, the widows, this has really created a serious problem and it's one that we need to deal with and it's one that we need to correct due to the fact that these are the people that have made our country what it is today. And I would strongly advise an 'aye' vote on this Resolution."

I rise in support this Resolution but I think the Members ought to know that this is going to cost probably between five hundred and seven thousand dollars it is currently being proposed to take out of the central office for the Department of Veterans' Affairs. And I know that they don't have the money then to operate the Central office. So really when you vote for this Resolution I would sure hope you'll put a vote up there to fund the effect and the impact this Resolution would have if followed through. I know the Department wants to do it but they have some tough budget choices as did every Department last year that they had to make.
