"Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Ladies and Gentlemen of the House, I realize that it's Thursday afternoon and we're getting ready to go home, but we did have Senate Joint Resolution 171 just introduced. It is a Death Resolution on behalf of Brigadier General Thomas Napolitan, who is the...or who was the Assistant Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard for Air, a member of the Executive Department. As a national guardsman myself, I would like to just make mention of General Napolitan. Not only was he a friend to me, but I'm sure that he was a friend to many people in this chamber. He worked very closely, I know with many of us, on issues relating to guard matters, on fly- overs at July 4th parades, whatever it might be. During his career, he distinguished himself as a pilot, a fine officer, a gentleman who really did have a distinguished military career and brought great credit, not only to himself, but to the Air Force and the Illinois National Guard. He served at the highest levels of the Pentagon for several years, before coming back to Illinois to be the Assistant Adjutant General. He handled several key assignments with the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He earned numerous awards and decorations during his career, including the U.S. Legion of Merit, several Air Force awards and many Illinois National Guard ribbons. More than anything though, General Napolitan enjoyed his service with the Illinois National Guard. We have here in the State of 5 STATE OF ILLINOIS 87th GENERAL ASSEMBLY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TRANSCRIPTION DEBATE 151st Legislative Day June 4, 1992 Illinois, and some of you may not be aware, but we have three outstanding Air Guard units that contribute significantly to the defense of this country. General Napolitan worked hard to keep those units up to their fighting strength. He was proud of all of what our citizen soldiers could accomplish and the recognition that they brought to us here in Illinois through the Air National Guard. I know that many of you have worked with him very closely on a whole variety of matters. I think it's appropriate that we recognize his passing here in this House with this Death Resolution. I thank you for the few minutes that you have given me on this, and I have asked that all Members be added as Co-Sponsors of this Death Resolution. Thank You."
