Speaker Granberg

"The hour of 12:30 having arrived, the Members shall be in their seats. Members shall be in their seats. Staff shall retire to the rear of the chamber. We will be led in prayer today by Reverend Walter Carlson with the United Methodist Trinity Church of Springfield. Reverend Carlson is the guest of Representative Duane Noland. Guests in the Gallery may wish to rise for the invocation."

Reverend Carlson

Reverend Carlson: "Let us pray. Mighty and Gracious God, speaking for the people of the State of Illinois and the people of the United States of America, I thank You for these people assembled before me now. I thank You for their willingness to do as they are called to do, for their willingness to serve as they have been called to serve. I thank You for their wisdom, their courage, their honor and their honesty, their forthrightness and their willingness to listen. May they choose rightly, may they speak honorably, may they always do as You would have them do. Amen."

Speaker Granberg

"We will be led in the Pledge of Allegiance by Representative Bost."

Bost et al

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Speaker Granberg

Speaker Granberg: "Roll Call for Attendance. Representative Black, did you have a statement? Representative Cross."

Cross

"Good afternoon, Mr. Speaker. How are you today?"

Speaker Granberg

"Fine. How are you?"

Cross

"I'm fine. Thanks for asking. We're all here except Representative Deuchler, Mr. Speaker. Thank you."

Speaker Granberg

"Representative Hannig."

Hannig

"Yes, thank you, Mr. Speaker. We have a number of excused 1 STATE OF ILLINOIS 90TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TRANSCRIPTION DEBATE 30th Legislative Day March 11, 1997 absences on this side of the aisle. Of course Representative Joe Lyons is excused for the funeral for his Father. Representative Lang's father had a heart attack just yesterday and emergency surgery and so he's excused for that reason. Representative Holbrook's wife went into the hospital for emergency surgery, and Representative Holbrook is excused today. I'm sad to announce that Representative McGuire's wife passed away just this morning, I believe. So we're all very saddened to hear that Representative McGuire has lost his wife. And I would ask all the Members to include all these individuals in their prayers. And there'll be, I think, a memo coming around in the not too distant future explaining the details of the funeral. So Representatives Holbrook, Lang, Lyons and McGuire are excused today."

Speaker Granberg

"The Gentleman from Rock Island, Representative Brunsvold."

Brunsvold

"Thank you, Mr. Speaker, while there is a lull in the action, I might remind the Members that the Sportsman's Caucus reception and auction is this evening. If you have an item for the auction, please get it to my office or Senator Bob Madigan's office. We would like to invite everyone, even if you're not a caucus member, to come to the reception and auction tonight at the Hilton. We're on the second floor in the Appolo Room. I would like to have everybody there. It's a fun night and everyone is 'comped' in. So, Legislators will be free tonight. And come and bid on some items that you might like. So, we would like to see everybody there, if you can make it over to the Hilton, 6:00 for cocktails and 7:00 for the auction. Thank you, Mr. Speaker."

Speaker Granberg

"One hundred thirteen Members being present, a 2 STATE OF ILLINOIS 90TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TRANSCRIPTION DEBATE 30th Legislative Day March 11, 1997 quorum is acknowledged and the House is in order. Mr. Clerk. Committee announcements."

Rossi

"The Rules Committee is meeting in the Speaker's Conference Room. Rules Committee, Speaker's Conference Room."

Speaker Granberg

Speaker Granberg: "Representative Poe, the Gentleman from Sangamon, is in the Chair for purposes of an introduction."

Speaker Poe

Speaker Poe: "If the Members would take notice of the board, we want to congratulate Pleasant Plains Middle School, which is in my district. I'm going to introduce the boys real quick. As I introduce their name, I would ask maybe they could raise their hand. First of all, the Pleasant Plains Middle School is the Junior High State Champions with a 27 and 0 record. So, they beat Chicago Heights to win the State Championship so, we are quite proud of them here in Central Illinois. First, we have Gary Frazey the Athletic Director, Cliff Cameron the Coach, and Blake Strong another Assistant Coach. The players are Duston Binscoe, Stephen Bigley, Andrew Cochran, Brandon Dennis, Jess Durco, Gibbs Glisson, Heath Hendren, and if any of the Members recognize his father is Carter Hendren, so maybe we can give him a little bit of the raspberries, here before he leaves, Beau Jennings, Tyler Cassider, Luke Kennedy, Marcus McGlassen, Adam Sushe and Ryan Sunley. So that's the State Junior High Basketball Team from Pleasant Plains, Illinois. Thank you."
