An example of Brookfield Zoo's efforts were seen this morning when staff and volunteers from the zoo held a Kid's Swamp Fest, appropriately in the Stratton Office Building, teaching children about the wonders of our wetlands. On behalf of Representative Jack Kubik, in whose district the Brookfield Zoo resides, I wish to express our pleasure at having them with us today but also, for people from all over the state who visit the park, they leave inspired, educated and exhausted from a full day of fun. In fact over 50% of the zoo's visitors come from outside of Cook County. Mr. Speaker, the Brookfield Zoo relies upon dedicated volunteers for many of their programs. Today, I'd like to recognize and welcome the Brookfield Zoo volunteers that you see in the Gallery, who held the Kids Swamp Fest today: Russ Evans, Jane Klimcke, Lynn Dempsey, Mary Nodulman, Kim White, and Lisa and Dave Heim. With them are zoo staff members: Linda Flanner, Jim Schultz, Regi Mezydlo and former Senate staffer Laura Jasiek.
