"Yes, Mr. Speaker, we're operating under a very condensed schedule this Session, as it's been determined by at least three of the four Leaders that we plan to be out of here in the middle of April. Therefore, our time is at a premium. And we're also operating under a somewhat, I call it a somewhat arbitrary decision that each Member will only be allowed to introduce three Bills, which means that some of the concerns of my constituents may very well not have an opportunity to be addressed before the Illinois General Assembly. And I, I think that's wrong. But, let me just say this, Mr. Speaker, the House Republicans are willing to work with you on this abbreviated schedule to the very best of our ability. But what, what transpired this morning, Mr. Speaker, you need to be aware and make your Members aware that when a committee is posted for hearing, as Consumer Protection was today at 11 o'clock, for an organizational meeting and our Members were there and sat for 25 minutes, and your Members did not show up and could not get a quorum, so the committee did not meet. Now, if, if we're going to work with you on this abbreviated schedule, it behooves our side of the aisle to make sure that our responsibilities are met and we met them this morning. I would admonish the Chair and the Speaker to inform his Members that when they post a committee meeting, the Majority Party should be there on time and ready for business. And I trust that today's fiasco in the Consumer 3 STATE OF ILLINOIS 91ST GENERAL ASSEMBLY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TRANSCRIPTION DEBATE 77th Legislative Day January 13, 2000 Protection Committee will not be repeated, because we simply don't have time for that. We cannot afford to post committee meetings on this abbreviated schedule and then not meet because someone chooses to show up late or show up not at all.
