"Thank you, Mr. Speaker, 2904 is divided into two sections, the first of which is a nepotism clause which says that the regional superintendent of schools shall not be allowed to appoint as their first state, financed position... the first assistant... would not be allowed to put into that position a relative. And it's the same terminology as used in terms of the State Representatives... in terms of their own employees. We want to make sure that the state-funded position... and let me make it clear again. The first assistant shall not be a direct relative of the regional superintendent and the wording is the same as with the State Representatives and their legislative aides. The second part of the Bill is the state board initiative dealing with the sending of forms to the state board from school districts. And it is a move to try and clean up the number of forms that are sent to the regional office and also to the state board. Both these Bills, I know of no opposition. They came through the committee with unanimous support. I'd be open for any questions."

Last year we passed House Bill 851 which created the Commemorative Medallions Act and authorized the State Treasurer to issue medallions commemorating popular events of statewide interest. At this point, HJR 40 would allow the Treasurer to sell medallions for commemorating Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, and Ulysses Grant as Illinois presidents and commemorating their efforts of achievements and contributions to the State of Illinois.
