"The agency currently, as we've implemented TANF, has a couple of questions that their workers used to ask respondents. The domestic violence community feels that, you know, sort of like asking when's the last time you beat your spouse, that they have to be more sensitive and to see the hidden aspects that might be a factor to help identify that and make the appropriate referrals."
"Is there any chance that this is not going to be a good idea and that we may have to come back some day and take this provision away, or do you think that this has got to absolutely work?"
"From my experience when I was with United Charities and working with these kinds of issues with social workers, not all social workers are trained in the objective indicators of family violence. I think this is a great idea; it's a minimal impact on the department and will better serve our clients in the State of Illinois."

It merely helps improve the skills of the case workers to appropriately identify when family violence may be an issue in the case that they're handling."
