"Please state your point." Davis, M.: "Mr. Speaker, Ladies and Gentlemen of the House, I think we know that the month of February is African- American History Month. And I just want to share with you who my hero is, my African-American hero. This gentleman was born in Macon, Georgia. At the age of 13 he walked to Chicago, Illinois, because of the harsh treatment afforded to people of color in Macon, Georgia, and other places during that time in our history. This gentleman came to Chicago, joined a church, met the leader of the Eastern Star, married one of her granddaughters. This gentleman had four children: Lucille, who became a counselor and mentor for Chicago Public Schools; James, a U.S. postal worker; Ruth, a stenographer, most young people won't know what a stenographer was. Mr. McKay worked at the United States Steel Mill for 50 years. And after 50 years, they provided him with a watch. Mr. McKay sent all of his children, eight girls and one boy to school and taught them the values of most American lives. To value education…"
