And Lord, who among us isn't tempted by silver and gold, all of us are, but the gain from these cannot compare to the peace, comfort, happiness and blessings of living wisely. As many of you will recall, Senate Bill 754 passed this House unanimously, had 1 'no' vote in the Senate and the Illinois Liquor Commission ignored us completely. They ignored the Legislative Branch, the will of the people, entirely in making, what I view, as a totally illegal decision. So, why is this decision so important? First of all, I think it is very important that we send notice that the Legislative Branch of government should not be ignored because this Legislative Branch speaks for the people of Illinois. But on a substantive basis, the impact of that decision is also very, very important because it begins to unwind the prohibition… since prohibition, the three-tier process for beer distribution in Illinois: the brewer, the distributor and the retailer. Already around the world, there has been a mass horizontal integration of the beer industry. It is currently the position of those virtual monopolies to vert… to vertically integrate those monopolies. And that is what has been at stake in this decision and that is what the Liquor Commission did and that is what the Governor, by not intervening, has permitted to happen. So, I would like to just make sure that all Members understand what has happened here and that you share with me my outrage that this branch was ignored and that we are apparently on a path, a very destructive path, for horizontally integrating monopolizing the beer industry in the state.
