James F. Clayborne Jr. (D)

PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR CLAYBORNE) Senator Muñoz, to the resolution. SENATOR MUÑOZ: Thank you, Mr. President, Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate. It's with heavy heart that I come before you today to honor the 16 STATE OF ILLINOIS 100th GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 93rd Legislative Day 2/15/2018 memory of Commander Paul Bauer, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this week on the 13th of February. Commander Bauer's passing is a huge loss for the City of Chicago, his fellow officers, friends, and family, and especially to his wife, Erin, and his thirteen-year-old daughter. He dedicated most of his life to serving and protecting communities throughout Chicago and climbed through the ranks of the Chicago Police Department. Came on the job when he was twenty-one years old. I never had the pleasure of working with him, but I know so many that I've talked to in the past couple of days, they said he was truly a policeman's man, how he was outgoing, caring. As I stated, he did go up from just a PO and then up to the rank of Commander. So I would ask for a moment of silence. Thank you, Mr. President.

James F. Clayborne Jr. (D)

PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR CLAYBORNE) (Moment of silence observed) Thank you. Senator -- President Cullerton.

Thomas Cullerton (D)

Thank you, Mr. President. I -- I did not know the peace officer, however I do have a connection to him. This murder took place in front of the State of Illinois building. My daughter happened to be there when it happened. She was a witness to this murder. She was interviewed by the police and picked the suspect out of a line-up. When she was being interviewed by the detective, she told me that the entire police headquarters was incredibly saddened. The detectives interviewing her were breaking up and crying. They explained to her that this particular officer, when he left his wife in the morning and his daughter, was not expected, because of his job, to be in jeopardy of losing his life. But he volunteered under the circumstances to -- to put himself in that 17 STATE OF ILLINOIS 100th GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 93rd Legislative Day 2/15/2018 place. So it's -- it's a -- it's an incredible tragedy. It's affected everybody, in Chicago especially. And I really feel sorry for his loss. Thank you.

James F. Clayborne Jr. (D)

PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR CLAYBORNE) Senator Muñoz has moved the adoption of Resolution 1410. Is there any discussion? The question is, shall the Senate adopt Senate Resolution 1410. All those in favor will say Aye. Opposed, Nay. The Ayes have it, and the resolution is adopted. Senator Harmon in the Chair.
