Thank you, Mr. President. Senate Resolution 55 would designate October 13th, 2019, as "Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day" in the State of Illinois. I doubt anyone in this Chamber doesn't know someone who's been affected by this terrible disease. In fact, one in eight women in the U.S. could be diagnosed with breast cancer, and just in Illinois, it's expected that eleven thousand five hundred and sixty women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. Our hope is that by designating this an awareness day, it's an opportunity to shed light on the devastation that metastatic cancer brings to communities throughout the State. Thank you.

Thank you, Mr. President. This resolution urges healthcare providers to ask patients or their spouse if they've ever been in the military, inform all organizational staff of a patient's veteran status, and provide that -- a veteran-specific best practice education and provide that veteran-specific education at conferences/through publications. We ran a pilot program in the south suburbs at Edward Hospital in terms of asking people whether or not they were a veteran, and other veterans had an opportunity to talk to other veterans in the hospitals. And it made the quality of care and their experience, not only in hospitals, but in nursing homes, far better than what it's ever been. And it's an awesome opportunity. We hope that other healthcare providers and -- adopt this. And that's why we're urging them to do this today. Mr. President, thank you very much for the time.

Thank you. Mr. President, I literally could not hear a word Senator Hastings said in the presentation of his resolution. And I am always keenly interested and intrigued by what Senator 11 STATE OF ILLINOIS 101st GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 15th Legislative Day 2/21/2019 Hastings has to say on any issue. So I wonder if you would be so kind as to ensure we have a little order in the Chamber and ask Senator Hastings to repeat the resolution.

I said, I love Senator Righter. He's the nicest man in the whole Chamber and pays attention to everything that I have to say, especially right now. I just want to make sure you're listening. Oh, I'm sorry, Leader -- Leader. So we ran a pilot program in various senior nursing homes and hospitals in the south suburbs, one being an affiliate of Edward Hospital, to where healthcare providers would ask patients or their spouses if they'd ever served in the military. This resolution informs organizational staff of a veteran's patient {sic} (patient's veteran) status and it provides veteran-specific best practice education, specific education at conferences/through publications. So we found through our pilot program in the south suburbs that veterans sometimes have a hard time self-identifying whether they're in a -- a practice or not, and sometimes they just need to be asked. And when they're asked, it allows for other veterans who may serve on staff at hospitals to engage with them and it also allows for the veteran to kind of open up sometimes, because there may be other problems that take place. So this, obviously, this resolution just urges healthcare providers to ask whether a veteran {sic} is a veteran. It helps with the treatment of care. It also helps with just them being able to communicate a little bit more openly. And for that, Mr. President, I ask for an Aye vote.
