On February 15th, 2019, a mass shooting took place at the Henry Pratt Company in Aurora, Illinois. Six people, including the perpetrator, died and six others were injured. Those who died during the Aurora shooting are Clayton Parks of Elgin, Trevor Wehner of DeKalb, Russell Beyer of Yorkville, Vicente Juarez of Oswego, Josh Pinkard of Oswego. Another employee and five police officers were wounded. This event put Aurora in the unenviable position having a part on the list of cities shaken by mass shootings. But it had an effect the shooter could not have anticipated: Aurora came together more than ever. We're "hashtag" Aurora Strong. Last night, our Police Chief, Kristen Zeman, was the guest of U.S. Representative Bill Foster at the State of the Union Address in Washington, D.C. She and her department not only responded skillfully at the time, they've helped our city recover and thrive. So I ask you all to join me for a moment of silence in memory of that day's victims and also a moment of hope for our city's continuing recovery. I join Senator Holmes in recognizing the anniversary and the lives that were lost in this tragic event. The devastating events in Aurora and across the nation have caused people to be afraid to attend large events, like concerts and sporting events. Our children are now participating in active shooting drills in their schools. As legislators, we must all be cognizant of gun violence in our society and act together to prevent such other tragedies so that those five people did not die in vain.

Thank you, Mr. President. And thank you, Members of the Senate, for again considering House Bill 3-9-0-2. As you all know, House Bill 3-9-0-2 reinstates the sales tax exemption for materials, parts, equipment, components, and furnishings incorporated into or upon an aircraft. This bill provides that the credit will continue until December 31st of 2024. This exemption was designed to create jobs and bring industry to the State of Illinois by putting Illinois on a level playing field with other tax-exempt states - and it worked. The exemption was originally placed in 2010 and was inadvertently allowed to lapse. In my district alone, over five hundred jobs were created because of this exemption. More than five hundred families are supported in highly skilled, well-paying jobs with a median income of over eighty-two thousand. And I ask all of you to join me today in supporting the fourteen facilities across our State in ten different communities and over thirty-seven hundred jobs across the State. And I ask for an Aye vote. Thank you, Mr. President.

Well, thank you, Mr. President. I just wanted to -- to stand and applaud Senator Crowe for bringing this bill back. She's done a great job of educating us on this issue. And as she said, this is not about the very privileged people that happen to own private aircraft. This is about the hardworking men and women who have special -- special skills and have created markets and new jobs here across Illinois. It's not just in her district. There's a hundred and forty-five employees at Flightstar in Champaign- Urbana, in Senator Rose and I's district. And I think many legislators in this Chamber have similar stories of -- of those families that are supported all across the State. So I would also urge an Aye vote on this bill.
