PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR CUNNINGHAM) Please state your point.
As Co-chair of the Illinois Asian American Legislative Caucus, I would like to take this -- time to recognize three important events for the Asian American community this week. This week marks the beginning of Ramadan, one of the holiest months in the Islamic Lunar Calendar. Muslim communities worldwide will begin a thirty-day fast from dawn to dusk symbolizing one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Ramadan is a time for reflection, spirituality, and nurturing a connection to the Divine -- Divine, self, and community. I would also like to wish the Telegu and Kannada community a Happy Ugadi. Ugadi is the start of the New Year in the Hindu lunisolar calendar. Additionally, tomorrow is also Vaisakhi, which signifies the harvest festival for the Punjabi Sikh and Hindu community. The celebration of these New Year -- 24 STATE OF ILLINOIS 102nd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 23rd Legislative Day 4/13/2021 the New Year comes with an opportunity for all -- us all to gather renewed hope for the future. Both Ramadan, Ugadi, and Vaisakhi mark a potential new beginning for all communities of all religions within our State and country to gather inspiration and practice these lessons of self-reflection, hopefulness, and generosity in our daily lives. My thoughts and recognitions go out to the Muslim and Telegu and Kannada communities today. Thank you.
