8 Thank you, Mr. President. We have lost a friend here in this 9 Chamber. Barbara Freesen served as a doorkeeper for the Illinois 10 Senate following a proud and distinguished 26-year career as an 11 Illinois State Police Trooper. She was born and raised in Bluffs, 12 attended Illinois College in Jacksonville where she lettered in 13 basketball and served as the captain of the tennis team. She was 14 always a bright and cheerful face here in the Senate. Outside of 15 the one time that when I was very new here, she did not think I 16 was old enough to be a State Senator, so she checked my ID as I 17 was trying to come in. And ever since then she's been absolutely 18 wonderful and unfortunately she passed away very unexpectedly. 19 And -- but we all know she took her job very seriously. And I'll 20 miss seeing her. I'll miss seeing her here. She is survived by 21 her wife, Bonnie Miller. And so, I would ask that everyone please 22 keep her family in your prayers. I rise today to present Senate Resolution 755, which is a resolution that asks that this Body name February 5th to 12th, Court Reporting and Captioning Week, here in Illinois. Court -- certified stenographic reporters or court reporters play a crucial role in the justice system here 12 in Illinois. They provide verbatim transcripts of depositions, 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 trials, hearings and meetings that are used in our appellate system and in front of our Supreme Court as well as in the trial court. The service that they provide is incredible. They have very high standards and their words matter because they form the basis of our judicial opinions that give us the common law here in Illinois. In addition, stenographic real time captioners provide communication access in Illinois for millions of people throughout the State and country who are deaf or hard of hearing when consumers of real time captions are engaged in their business, educational, recreational and personal lives.
