Thank you, Mr. President. Senate Resolution 60 commemorates, 6 STATE OF ILLINOIS 103rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 50th Legislative Day 5/15/2023 May 15th as Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Awareness Day. This is a genetic disease that impacts more than fifty-thousand Americans. And this resolution urges Illinois to support research to find a cure, in addition to assisting individuals and families affected by the disease. TSC affects one in six-thousand newborns in the United States. Approximately forty to eighty-thousand people in the US have TSC. TSC is a multi-symptom genetic disease that causes benign tumors in the brain and other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs and skin. It can also affect the central nervous system leading to seizures, impaired intellectual development, autism, behavioral problems, skin abnormalities and kidney disease. TSC is also the leading genetic cause of both epilepsy and autism. Currently, the supporter of research on TSC is the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. And I appreciate your support and education on this disease.
