Thank you. So, as you know, we are celebrating Women's History Month this month, and I have a guest today that really embodies everything that we talk about and think about when we look to celebrate Women's History Month. Evelyn Brandt Thomas was born and raised on her family farm in Salisbury Township, with parents who emphasized a strong work ethic. She attended Springfield High School, where she took two years of shorthand, typing, and bookkeeping classes. Then she took accounting classes at Illinois Business College. At the same time, she was keeping records for the family farm. Co-founder of Brandt with her brother, a leading retailer of professional agronomic services and manufacturers of specialty input products. She worked as the office manager and treasurer for decades, and I will tell you that she still goes into the office every day and when I visited, her staff said, nothing leaves out of here until Evelyn sees it. Brandt has really become an international company. There are subsidiaries in Spain, Brazil. Brandt Europe Products are distributed primarily in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Her connection with the land began at an early age, where on the family farm for her father farmed with horses. Through the decades, she embraced innovations while never losing sight of the fundamental values that have shaped the agricultural landscape. She remains a living embodiment of the profound connection between human health and the land. Known in central Illinois for her civic leadership, philanthropic efforts, and support for the community. She's very outgoing, fun-loving person who can be seen bidding on cattle at the Illinois State Fair and attending NASCAR races. And not only does she attend NASCAR races, she owns a NASCAR with the - with the driver, Justin Allgaier. And those of you that came in and saw the flashy car outside, that's how she got here today. During her career, she has been lauded by many organizations for her business and civic leadership. She was one of the 2008 Women of Influence recognized by Springfield Business Journal and Security Bank. The next year, she received the Athena Award. In 2011, she was selected by Illinois Agri Women as Outstanding Businesswoman in Agriculture. She received an honorary doctorate degree from UIS in 2014. She was inducted into the Senior Illinois and Hall of Fame in 2020. In 2022, she was named the State Journal Register First Citizen, and in this year, she was the recipient of the Order of Lincoln, the State's highest civilian honor for professional achievement and public service. Miss Brandt will be celebrating her 101 birthday in August, and to celebrate that, she is opening a brand new, innovative center in her honor. So, she has invited all of us out to see it. August 24th, 2024. Her birthday is actually August 25th, but she says she didn't want people getting drunk on Sunday. And in celebration of her birthday next month. She is going to be running her 20th marathon, the Big Sur Marathon in Monterey, California, in celebration of her birthday. So, her name is Jill. Thank you, Madam President. Today is a very important day, March 12th, which represents Equal Pay Day, which represents all women who are celebrating this year on March 12th. The date is based on US census figures showing that the average woman who works 5 STATE OF ILLINOIS 103rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 89th Legislative Day 3/12/2024 full time is paid on average, just 84 percent of the typical man's pay. This was something that was started by the National Committee on Pay Equity in 1996. The goal of Equal Pay Day is to raise awareness about the gender wage gap. I also want to highlight some upcoming days because it takes different groups to actually get to equal pay throughout the course of the year. June 15th, for example, is LGBTQIA Plus Equal Pay Day Awareness Day. July 27th is Black Women's Equal Pay Day. August 15th is Mom's Equal Pay Day for working moms. October 5th is Latina Equal Pay Day, November 30th is Native Americans Women's Equal Pay Day, and April 5th is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Women's Equal Pay Day. Again, the pay gap has been shown to start as soon as a year after college, and the inequity affects all of us, so it's not something I wish to celebrate, but something I wish to continue to educate on. Thank you very much. And I thank the organization, the Association - the American Association of University Women who brought this resolution to my attention and who continue to educate us all on this matter.
