Madam President, Members of the Senate. It is my absolute pleasure to rise and announce a truly historic accomplishment for the Harrisburg High School boys bowling team. Today we stand in awe of the hard work, dedication and teamwork that has propelled this group of young athletes to a pinnacle of high school sports. Winning the IHSA State Championship. This year, the Harrisburg Bulldogs achieved something that had never been done before in the school's history, bringing home the State Champion Trophy in bowling. This victory is monumental. The boys didn't just win, they set records and did so with incredible precision and skill, with a commanding lead of 689 pins over second place, they displayed excellence that will be remembered for years to come. The seven-member team consisted of Caleb Gore, Myles Brosnahan, Jonathan Carlton, James Cranmore, Dalton Wheeler, Hunter Bayne and Will West. Together, this team recorded a jaw dropping 13,177 total 11 STATE OF ILLINOIS 104th GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 11th Legislative Day 2/5/2025 pin -- pinfall at the State tournament, establishing a new State record for the best three game team series with a score of 3531. I'd also like to take a moment to give special recognition to the coaches. They have been a steadfast and driving force toward the team's success. Head Coach Doug Cottam and Assistant Coach Barry McDermott have dedicated 23 years to Harrisburg High School Bowling, guiding these athletes since the IHSA introduced bowling as a sport in 2002. Their leadership, wisdom and commitment have been crucial to shaping these young men into champions. Also, let's not forget the contributions of Assistant Coach Sebastian Barton, who has helped make this season a remarkable one. This team's journey to the State title didn't just start this year. They -- they recorded an undefeated varsity season and their victories in four tournaments, including the regional sectional titles are testaments to their preparation and determination. But it's not just the results that stand out. It's the character, sportsmanship and teamwork that they've demonstrated along the way. To the entire Harrisburg Bulldogs bowling team, you've shown that greatness is possible through dedication and teamwork. Your hard work, focus, and effort have inspired all of us. You've set a new bar for what's possible in the world of high school sports. Congratulations, coaches and players. Today, I'm so happy to see my colleagues wearing red to support and spread awareness on cardiovascular disease, a disease that has unfairly affected women at a larger scale than men. Women have always experienced many unique life stages that can increase our risk to developing cardiovascular disease over the course of our lifetime. For far too long, women have been left out of research, testing, treatment, and the adequate funding to tackle the disease. But collectively through Go Red for Women Movement, we are changing this. It is because of these gender disparities that days like today are critical to spreading awareness on what we can do to increase support in our fight to lower the likelihood of cardiovascular disease. Women at every age, stage of life, and background need our support and that is why we go red. I want to end by announcing that the American Heart Association is hosting a CPR training in Room M1 of the Stratton Building until 2 o'clock today.
