Good afternoon everybody. I am thrilled to welcome our Hope scholars from Hope Chicago to our Senate Chambers. Hope Chicago is an incredible program dedicated to dismantling systemic barriers to higher education by offering debt free college pathways for students and their families throughout Illinois. With its two generational model, Hope Chicago currently empowers over 1800 traditional college aged scholars and more than 200 parent scholars. Sharing the dream of debt-free higher education with parents is a transformative experience for many in our underserved neighborhoods. Together, Hope Chicago is on a mission to create lasting hope for generations to come. So, this is an amazing program to bring the dream and the gift of higher education to our families so we could give a warm Senate welcome to our Hope Chicago scholars that are here with us in the gallery.

Thank you, Madam President. With me today, I have one of my district staff, Annie Hewitt, and she does an amazing job running around a 15-county district doing reach out stuff. And I can't thank her enough for that. But she is here for a different reason today. I have a bill in Public Health today. That was brought to me by Annie and Annie has a cute little boy named Dolan. And I'm sure at some point you will probably see him running around here today. Well, here not too long ago, Annie had what's called an amniotic fluid embolism or AFE. It's pretty rare, but in most cases, it's deadly to either the infant or the mother. And in a lot of cases, both. So, Annie is a survivor to that, and she is here to testify in our committee today. And I would just like to give her a warm Senate welcome. Thank you, Madam president.
