3 STATE OF ILLINOIS 87th GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 115th Legislative Day June 1992 Thank you, Madam Secretary. You know, before I ask Representative Rea Isicl and Representative Hasara to say a few words, I wanted to say that -- that Mr. Grant is truly a dedicated -- been truly a dedicated public servant. And you know, not only has he been very beneficial to health care -- rural health care in the State of Illinois, he also surrounds himself with a -- with a group of lovely ladies. If you noticed, about a1l of the ladies around him are very attractive ladies. So I think, you know, before we ask Mr. Grant to make a few remarksr -- 1'11 call on Karen Hasara -- Representative Hasara to say a few words.
Thank you: Senator. I would like to commend Al Grant. Most of you may not know, but I believe some of us know, that A1 Grant is the most well-known expert in rural health issues in the nation, and it certainly is Illinois' loss, I believe, to see him retire. But we know that the group that's surroundàng him today ak the Department of Public Health, the Rural Affairs Officee will carry on his work, and he has promised us that he will continue to be -- to be available to help us on rural health issues. So best of luck to you, Al. These days the end of June - wefre very jealous of your cabin in northern Tennessee, and we certainly wish you the best.

Thank you, Senator O'Daniel and Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate. It's a privilege to join my colleagues in recognizing and congratulating Al Grant on his dedicated service to this State in the Way of rural health. And I know that When first came to Springfield a few years ago, I could not believe there was a mentality that existed that kind of understood What I was talking about in deep south, but that was the man that I found that was 4 STATE OF ILLINOIS 87th GENERAL ASSEMBLY I REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT E 115th Legislative Day June 9, 1992 sharing that. And then I only found out that he was from deeper south than I was: so that kind of paid some of the tribute to what he was -- helped supporting. So -- and even when he told me he was retiring, I Was scared When some of the people -- he was one of the feW persons that understood when I said, ''Are you retirinq?'' And he understood that dialect, and then I knew We had a whole lot in common. So we are going to miss this gentleman, l : b I ecause he has Eruly brougbt a unique perspective to the rural I health care issues, and he's helped guide my legislation along. And I want to thank him and his very able staff for all the cooperation and true service and commitment they've given to the : i medically underserved areas and the rural areas of this State . So I again. A1, Wefre going to miss you, but stay in touch. We know that your dedicated service will -- we hope will shine through a1l of ours. Thank you.
