I know that al1 of us are extremely proud of Senator Ted Lechowicz - his friendship, his outstanding leadership in Springfieldz certainly carrying on in Cook County. And we just wanted to make a special tribute to him, and this evening there Will be a reception following adjournment, at 433 West Jackson Parkwayz which is just about one block from the Capitol. I have some maps. I would like to invite a1l the Senators and -- and also the Secretary, and also a1l -- a11 up on the podium. Thank you very much. But 1et me point out to the Membership hoW important it is in my personal philosophy and the goal in life, the thankfulness that I have of the ability to represent the people from the Northwest Side for that period of time. And I could say very plainly and convincingly that I tried to do the best job I possibly could. I never missed a day of Session or a day of committee, until this I year, when my back went out. But more important than that, I i think it's important that all of us realize that al1 of us bring a piece of a mosaic to this great State of Illinois. I've met so many wonderful people from both the House and the Senate, and they I all brought something to the debate and to the understanding of what's needed in this great State. And to you, Mr. President, and to every Member here in this Senate, I can't thank you enough for participating in this great democracy in making sure that the people of Illinois are treated fairly, equally, and to the best of our budgetary -- ability - that the money is spent for worthwhile programs. I've had the opportunity of serving under four Governors. It's quite a thin: to say that -- ''How do you evaluate people?'' But I evaluate people by the type of programs that they try to promote. And to you, Mr. Presidentg I know you're also retiring this year. You are indeed an example for all of us, for the programs that youdve brought forth in this great State of Illinois. And to each and every one of you, the relationship and the friendship that you 've extended to me -- I can't thank you enough. We'11 be working together on worthwhile programs. This is just a shift in directions, or a shift in careers. But if there ls any way that Ted Lechowlcz can help you, a11 you have to do is pick up the phone and qive me a call.
