It is a disgrace to this Body. I was nct a party to the actr yet I can't even get a single bill out of Rules to even get it to a committee to debate it, and that's just as Wrong as what you say Mike Madigan is doin: on khe other side. I'm just shocked that us Democrats are not using the House more to punish you for What you're doing to us here.

In the last -- last Session, forty pereent the bills that were put out of the Rules Committee were Republican bills. Now they have every right to pass whatever bills that they -- they want to send over here. We don't have any joint rules that were passed by legislative actlonr b0th in the House and the Senate. And if they wank to stay here through June and extend their deadlinesr they -- they have every right to do that. They are responding to their constituents and the needs of the people of Illinois. That has not been happening here.

That Was the bill that would allow emergency repairs to the Danville Sewerage Treatment Plant to -- to proceed. Now, apologize to each and every Member of this Body: because I missed it. When that bill came over from the -- from the Hcuse on Concurrence, it did not contain an effective date, and although the contracts were ready to be signed Saturday or Sunday, the attorneys for the district felt that we should readdress this. The Governor acted very speedily in amendatorily vetoing to put the new effective date in -- or put the imnediate effective date in: and that's what this motion does, to accept the Governor's recommendatëon for change.

Each year -- two good things happened this year. of course, the senate won the -- won the softball game 6 to 4, but we also had a unanimous contribution from every Member of the senate in helping a charity of our particular choice. And the past, you may -- in the past, you may -- you may not realize this, but we just gave our money to the House and they gave away as they saw fit. Well, we thought maybe this year we'd like to identlfy a particular charity here in sangamon county, in the springfield area, that the senate could ldentify and the money that we 've raised could be -- could go towards that charity. And so we've done that. We raised six hundred dollars. As I say, each Member helped contribute to that effort, and Karen Hasara we asked her tc identify that particular charity, and she is here ncw to introduce a few folks and make sone comments about our efforts here in the Senate. we could just get everybody behind me here not -- to shut up.
Thank you very much, Senator Watson. I don't know if most of you know about Big Brothers/Big Sisters, but it is a national organization. The -- ks a preventive program for young people who need mentors and 3ig Brother/Big Slster matches big With a little, as we call them . It is an excellent program . is, again, I think, along the line of programs that we strive for right now a preventive program . does not get one penny of government money. The blgs and littles are volunteers, and the board works on many fund-ralsing projects thrcugh *he years to raise noney to support staff and other programs.
