We know that Ray came to Springfield some time ago , but he came to Spring fleld in 1960 and has worked here for thirty-fou r yearsz thirty-two of which he 's been bureau manager for Copley Newsr cove ring six National Presidential Nomlna ting Conventions over those years . What many people don 't know is that it was Ray Seratir in his capacity as the UPI bureau manager in Sioux Falls, South Dakota , many years ago , who covered most vigorously the Well-publicized birth of the F ischer qu intuplets Aberdeen , South Dakota. He has served in the Springlield community from the Sacred Hea rt Credit Union to Ursuline Academy and -- and countless other communlty services . But many are a little concerned that that Ray, who continues to be among the best dressed in Sp ringfield , despite the recent closlng of B & F Toggery , that Ray continues to maintain his sense of humo re and we think today that the entlre Senate should join in offering Ray our good wlshes, and his family for sticking with him . Ladies and Gentlemen of the Senate , we have the unique opportunity here today to remember something that occurred in a land away from ours that represented the great fight for freedom that exists in another pa rt of the world . And I have with me as my guest today M r. Gerry Duddy , from Northern Ireland . You Will a11 recall that durlng the 89th General Assemblyr you joined With me ln not only voting unanimously for, but 'almost every Member who had the oppo rtunity to do so acted as a cosponsor of Senate Resolution 23 that recognized the -- the heroic effo rts of Gerry 's brother, Jack , and thirteen othe rs Who in a peaceful protest ln Northern Ireland, Were killed, tragicaàlyz on January 30th, 1972. And so , this is the twenty-fifth annlversa ry of that terrible tragedy , and so I Would like us all , if we could , to take a moment and just give a -- a -- a reception of applause for Mr. Duddy who is here as my çuest. So please join me in -- in thankin: him for being here and honoring us With his presence.
