If I could have everyone's attention, today is Zoo Day, or it's the official Zoo Day in the Illinois Senate, and as you can see here, we have BZ Bear from the Brookfield Zoo. And today, downstairs, there have been many of the kids that have gone down into Room 122 where the Brookfield Zoo has bought {sic) several people and has set up some of their displays to show you some of the good things that the zoo is doing. The Brookfield Zoo, which is in my district, attracts 2.2 million visitors a year. We have -- nearly fifty percent of those visitors come from outside of Cook County and there are a hundred and twenty different communities that have volunteers represented at the zoo. This year, the Brookfield Zoo is celebrating its sixty-fifth anniversary. I want to welcome BZ Bear and invite you all to go down to Room 122 and see some of the great things that the Brookfield Zoo is doing in the State of Illinois and in my STATE OF ILLINOIS 91ST GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 36th Legislative Day April 28, 1999 district. You know, I was just looking over some of these statistics as it relate to the bills that are currently on Calendar, bills that are being held in the Rules Committee, and it looks very dismal, as it relate to Members on this side of the aisle, is that the Rules Committee has -- has bottled up many key pieces of legislation that was sponsored by Members on this side of the aisle. And I know that the Rules Committee just met a few minutes ago. I sent a letter to President Philip requesting that these bills be released from committee and they have not been released as of yet. So as we -- as you go in to caucus, I suggest that you, Madam President, and -- and some of the Members on that side of the aisle would encourage the President to let these good bills out of the Rules Committee so they can be debated in the full committee. In your caucus, let's deal with that issue, because it will be a issue in our caucus. As we work toward the last few weeks of adjournment, we want to work in the spirit of cooperation, rather than have a divided Senate here. So I suggest, President Philip, and the Members on that side, to push to get those bills out of Rules Committee so they can be heard.
