The battle ended with a 4 to 1 victory over their opposition, and the first State Championship. The Tigers ended the season with the best record in their history: 25 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie. Senate Floor Amendment No. 2 was a -- sort of a negotiated compromise between the Minority Spokesperson, Senator Madigan, and I. It provides for the denial of waiver requests in three school. ..
PRESIDING OFFICER: (SENATOR WATSON) Excuse me, Senator Cronin. I'm sorry. But let's -- let's take, once again, our conferences off the Floor. We'd like to have a little order so Senator Cronin can be heard. There will be discussion on this resolution. Senator Cronin.
The -- the sum and substance of this amendment are three provisions, two of which deal with school districts -- or affect -- or are waiver requests by school districts in Senate districts represented by Senator Shadid and Senator Philip, as well as Senator Bob Madigan. Two of the requests have to do with school calendars. School districts wanted to waive certain provisions of the school calendar, have the children in school less time so that they could afford more time for a -- teacher conferences. We thought that that was inappropriate. You don't want to shortchange the children. If you want a school conference, have it in addition to the days that are required. And then, secondly, there is a provision in here that affects North Pekin school district, and they were seeking to permit students from outside the school district to attend their school at a reduced tuition rate, and that was objected to by the State Board, as well as other Members of the Committee. So that's the sum and substance of the amendment. I'd be happy to answer any questions. Ask for your favorable consideration.

We are essentially in agreement in terms of this resolution regarding the school waiver requests and what Senator Cronin stated. I would just like to add that, in addition, there have been some objections brought up in terms of the physical education -- in terms of the physical education waiver requests, that some of these are renewals, and in terms of not having adequate facilities, that the school district should actually look at doing something in terms of making those improvements, as opposed to every five years asking for another waiver in this. In addition, we are looking at legislation regarding the substitute teacher issue and hope to have something that we'll move ahead to eliminate the constant waiver requests that we get on this issue. And so I would ask for people's favorable consideration of this as well. Thanks.

And when I served -- I met him when I served for Principal of a Day, a program that the Chicago public schools puts forth to get executives and people into school. This young man is a Junior Achiever. He is Redrick Taylor 111. He -- he wants to be a politician, he say. He wants to take my place. So -- and so I invited him and his family to Springfield. Subsequently, there were two amendments that were filed that I'm agreeing to. The first one makes some technical changes to the bill from the Department of Agriculture. It includes clarifying that other expenses directly related to the operation of the fair and approved by the Director may be paid from the Agricultural Premium Fund. In addition, Amendment 2 allows 4-H organizations to provide prizes comparable to the monetary premiums currently authorized for members' exhibits. This was requested by the City of Chicago, with some concerns that they had. I would just ask for an affirmative vote for this bill.
