4 STATE OF ILLINOIS 93rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 2nd Legislative Day 1/9/2003 Senator –- Senator Demuzio, what purpose do you rise?
I had a couple of announcements if the Members would –- if I get the attention of -– of the Members for a moment. There’s a couple announcements.
State your point.
The –- the Comptroller’s –- Comptroller’s Office has indicated that they’re asking the newly elected and newly appointed legislators to review their payroll and personnel files today between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Room 122B of the State Capitol. Apparently there’s a final review and a signature’s required to complete your payroll file. So, that’s today in Room 122B of the State Capitol. And of course, the Office of the Secretary of State has, I think, given everyone a letter indicating that you can pick up your license plates today in Room 118 of the Statehouse from 8:30 to 2:30 p.m. And also, Mr. President, it’s come to my attention that our newly elected Member, Senator John Sullivan, is -– is having a birthday today. I don’t know where he’s –- where he’s sitting, however. Happy birthday to -- to John. Well, Mr. President, I don’t know where Sullivan’s cake is. You’ll have to go over and ask Senator Sullivan. Maybe he’s got it in his office. If there’s only two or three pieces, we may have a heck of a time trying to divide it up, but happy birthday.
Senator Sieben, what -- what point do you rise?
Point of personal privilege, Mr. President.
State your point.
Thank you very much. I’d like to rise to invite the Members of the Senate now to join and participate in the future in the Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus. For many years, Representative Brunsvold in the House and myself, and before me, Bob Madigan here in the Senate, have cochaired the Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus. It’s a bipartisan group organization which 5 STATE OF ILLINOIS 93rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 2nd Legislative Day 1/9/2003 promotes the interests of hunters and fishermen and sportsmen and trappers in the State of Illinois. A onetime membership fee of twenty-five dollars. And we have an annual auction in March to raise money that we donate to the Conservation Foundation. So those of you who are inclined who are not currently members - many of you are - I would invite you to see me, if you have an interest. We’ll be looking for some new members of the Executive Committee of the Sportsmen’s Caucus. So I’d appreciate those of you who are now new Members of the Senate, if you’d like to become members of the Sportsmen’s Caucus, please see me and we would be glad to accept your contribution of twenty-five dollars to become a member. Thank you.
Resolutions.
Senate Resolution No. 7, offered by Senator Bomke and all Members. And Senator -- Senate Resolution No. 8, offered by Senator Emil Jones and all Members. They are both death resolutions.
Senator Burzynski, what purpose do you rise?
Thank you. For purposes of announcement, Mr. President.
State your point.
Thank you. At the conclusion of our business today, upon adjournment, there will be a Republican Caucus upon adjournment today. Thank you.
Consent Calendar. The last resolution read in needed to be sent to the Consent Calendar. We’re holding for a moment for the printing of the Consent Calendar. Senator Demuzio, what purpose do you rise?
Thank you, Mr. President. Also another announcement for the Members of the Majority Caucus. We will be meeting immediately upon adjournment in Room 400 for the purpose of selecting our 6 STATE OF ILLINOIS 93rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 2nd Legislative Day 1/9/2003 offices and, I assume, our seating arrangement on the -- on the Floor, as well. So, immediately upon adjournment. Now, you got that, Lou? Immediately upon adjournment, Mr. President.
Resolutions Consent Calendar. With leave of the Body, all those resolutions read in today will be added to the Consent Calendar. Madam Secretary, have there been any objections?
There have been no objections filed, Mr. President.
Is there any -- any discussion? If not, the question is, shall the resolutions on the Consent Calendar be adopted. All those in favor, say Yea. All opposed, No. The Ayes have it. The motion carries. The resolutions are adopted. Resolutions. Senator Demuzio. Wait, Senator.
Senate Joint Resolution No. 1, offered by Senator Demuzio. (Secretary reads SJR No. 1)
Senator Demuzio moves to suspend the rules for the purpose of immediate consideration of Senate Joint Resolution No. 1. All those in favor, say Aye. All those opposed, Nay. The Ayes have it. The rules are suspended for immediate consideration and adoption of resolution. Senator Demuzio.
Well, thank you, Mr. President. This is, indeed, the adjournment resolution that we just passed {sic}. It asks that we return on February the 4th at the hour 2003 {sic}. If you’ll look at your Senate schedule, you will see that there are perfunctory days that also have been scheduled by the Senate. Those are days that you are not required to be here. And I think when you get into your respective meetings and talk to staff about when you are expected and when you’re not expected, February 4th is when we all come back in person on the Floor of the Senate. Thank you, Mr. President.
Senator Demuzio moves to adopt Senate Joint Resolution No. 1. All those in favor, say Aye. All those opposed, Nay. The Ayes have it. The resolution is -- is adopted. Is there any 7 STATE OF ILLINOIS 93rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 2nd Legislative Day 1/9/2003 further business to be -- come before the Senate? If not, then pursuant to the adjournment resolution, Senator Demuzio moves the Senate stand adjourned until the hour of 12, Tuesday, February the 4th. 8
