Thank you, Mr. President. This is a death resolution for the wife of the late Mayor and colleague of ours and the mother of the current Mayor of the City of Chicago, Eleanor “Sis” Daley. And once you met Sis Daley, you felt that you had known her her entire life. She had the ability to make everyone at ease. She was both -- she was the Mayor’s -- both Mayors’ best friend, best supporter. Mrs. Daley knew exactly what was important in life: family, faith, neighborhood and community. Her commitment to those fundamentals, cornerstones of life, was exemplified in her family she has raised and in her children. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Mayor and his family. They can -- they can rest assured that -- knowing that her life was an example to all and her contributions to Chicago and this State is a legacy that will never be forgotten. Her late husband -- statue stands in this Rotunda. The contributions that he made, knowing full well he had that strong, strong support at home and raising children, enabled him to do the great things that he did and enabled her son to do the things that he’s doing for the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois. I know each and every one of us are saddened by her loss to the current Mayor and we will present this resolution tomorrow at her funeral. Thank you.

As the only Senate Republican with Chicago precincts, I stand to honor Mrs. Daley, a wonderful lady who, above all else, raised a terrific family. She certainly was her husband’s right-hand person, a great help to him all those years while he was in public service, and has raised a great son, one to be a United States Cabinet Secretary, one to be the Mayor of the 11 STATE OF ILLINOIS 93rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY REGULAR SESSION SENATE TRANSCRIPT 9th Legislative Day 2/19/2003 great City of Chicago. I went to high school with one of her grandchildren. A great lady, and our prayers go out to the Daley family.

There’s no doubt in my mind, having met Mrs. Daley, Sr., some time ago, what a great, talented lady she was and what a great influence she was on her family. Just one fine person who was well loved and well respected by anyone who knew her. And I feel it was a great pleasure for me to at least have met her during her lifetime, and I certainly give my condolences to her wonderful family.
