Thank you, Mr. President. I have with me today the distinct pleasure of introducing to you the 2003 Mother of the Year, Paula Staab Polk. I want to give a little background of Paula first, before I turn the mike over to her. She was born November 23rd, 1955, the oldest of seven children. She married Denny Polk on June 29th, 1974. They have four children: Christine, Mark, Karla and Megan. She founded the Staab Polk Memorial Home in Chatham, Illinois, and Cremation Services of Central Illinois. Paula is a licensed funeral director, embalmer, registered nurse, real estate, insurance producer. She is a visiting professor at SIU, featured speaker on many subjects, has co-authored “Children Coping With Loss,” “Consulting for AIDS in Illinois Schools,” and author -- and authors “Ask Paula”, advice column on funeral services in seven local newspapers. Of utmost importance to her and her husband was always have time for family togetherness. It is my pleasure to give to you the 2003 Mother of the Year, Paula Staab Polk. Paula.

With us today in the gallery on the Democrat side is University of Illinois Senior Matt Lackey, from Moline. He won this year the -- the hundred-and-sixty-five-pound weight class NCAA Wrestling Title. Matt finished third in 2001, second in 2002, and has now become the NCAA Champion at a hundred and sixty-five pounds. His 6-3 win over the second-seed, Troy Letters, of Lehigh, helped lead the Illini to their seventh Top-10 finish under coach -- Head Coach, Mark Johnson. The Illini squad, under the leadership of Coach Johnson and Team -- Team Captain Matt Lackey, scored sixty -- fifty-three points and finished ninth in the nation this year. Matt Lackey finished the season with an unblemished 38-0 record and 120-14 mark for his career. And with one hundred and twenty wins, he is tied for fourth on the school’s all-time win list. Matt will be competing to bring home to the State of Illinois the Olympic Gold Medal. Congratulations, Matt, on winning the National Championship and we wish you well in your future endeavors, especially at the Olympic trials. So, would the Members please welcome Head Coach Mark Johnson and NCAA Champion Matt Lackey to the Illinois Senate.

But I noticed that smile on your face, Mr. President, as you were standing there with all of those women. And I know that somebody said that you resemble Denzel Washington. And I wanted to make sure that my colleagues in the Senate joined me in watching you all day while these women are here, because we know that you’re single, sir. And so I’m asking all of my colleagues to join me in watching this Denzel look-alike while these women are here.
