Today, as the Governor proclaims Jesse White Day in Illinois, I thought it would be fitting if we acknowledge the fact that the Jesse White Tumbling Team is celebrating their 50th Anniversary today and that the Jesse White Tumbling Team was founded in 1959 by current Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White, who has devoted his life to public service, including previously serving as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army’s 101 Airborne and –- and as -- also as a member of the Illinois National Guard and dedicating 16 years of {sic} the Illinois General Assembly. The Tumbling Team was basically created as a positive alternative to gangs, drugs and alcohol, providing Chicago’s inner-city children with a recreational, athletic, educational and cultural achievement -- enrichment experience. The Tumblers have featured -- were featured in various commercials, television shows, motion pictures, including Coca- Cola commercials, The Tonight Show starring Jay Leno, Late Night - David Letterman, Heaven is a Playground and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
