Bethany is from Machesney Park, near the Rockford area. She graduated from Harlem High School and was also the valedictorian of her graduating class. And Wendell Phillips has become Chicago's first public high school to win the State Football Championship in the -- history, defeating Belleville Althoff Catholic 51 to 7 in the Illinois High School Association Class 4A Finals. I'd like to -- like to introduce and recognize the leadership of the coaches. These are some wonderful, wonderful guys. We have -- the Head Coach is Troy McAllister. Assistant Coaches: Michael Mancini and Mike Larson - they are the ones that are here today. And the other Coaches: The Assistant Coaches are Joseph Winslow, Jowon Powell, Karriem Muhammad, Pat Jerome, Mike Barry. We see it on the news. We hear it on the radio and we see it in our streets. Sadly, we do not always see the same spotlight on the success of our community. Winning the Championship not only highlighted their strengths, their preparation and dedication to football, but it heightened the often overlooked capabilities in our neighborhoods. It will take these large victories to change our City's narratives. It will take these wins for their peers to see that they too can succeed in their chosen paths. I encourage the -- them to continue being a beacon of their friends, their family, and their generation. And it will take continued leadership like theirs to lead our community forward. Thank you, Ladies and Gentlemen. Joining us today is the Villa Grove Junior High School Softball Team and their Head Coach Julie Woller. If you would, ladies, fill in the front here. They have won the Class 1A IESA State Championship. Jordyn Ray - listen to this, folks - Jordyn Ray threw twenty strikeouts in the State tournament game against Brimfield, which breaks the record for both Class 1A and 2A in strikeouts thrown during a State tournament game. She also threw a three-hitter against Milford, a two-hitter against Pontiac, and a one-hitter against Streator. Reagan Cheely threw a no-hitter in the State semifinal tournament game against Blue Mound Meridian, which is one of the -- only seven no-hitters ever thrown in both Class 1A and Class 2A. She also threw a no- hitter against Danville Schlarman. In all six post-season games combined, the regional and the sectional and State, Jordyn and Reagan only allowed seven hits and the team outscored their opponents - listen to this, folks - 57 to 6. Three out of the six games were shutouts. Can you please stand with me and congratulate the Villa Grove Junior High School Girls Softball Team on an amazing season.
