The march began with a kickoff rally of more than 600 people and 100 people marched the first 7 miles from the Thompson Center to downtown Chicago to Brighton Park on the southwest side using Archer Avenue, which traverses the heart of my district. Marchers ranging from ages 23 to 91 years old from diverse Illinois communities are walking 200 miles from Chicago to Springfield asking for a People and Planet First Budget and asking people along the route about how the state's budget crisis impacts them. Their proposed budget includes sufficient revenue to fund their suggested pet… or important causes such health care, pre-K through 12 education, free tuition at public universities, transitioning to green energy, repairing infrastructure and honoring the state's pension commitments to public workers.
