So, he's of course in the Navy, as you all know, on active duty. And unfortunately, his birthday weekend was for duty. But I wish to put in the record that everybody wish him a great 20th birthday nonetheless."

Veterans and leaders of the Fox Valley communities, including but certainly not limited to Aurora, Montgomery, and Oswego. And we are honoring him. He did pass away earlier last year. And we just thought it would be befitting myself and Representative Keith Wheeler, along with the other Representatives of the area, to memorialize him. He served two tours of duty during Vietnam aboard the USS O'Brien, the first American ship to receive direct hits from the enemy during the Vietnam War on December 23, 1966. He often recalls the story that one day he went to bed with his shipmate and friend on the bunk on top of him, and then after the bombing, his shipmate lost his life, and he will never remember him. And he never forgot… or he would never forget him, and he would never forget saying goodnight to him that night. Herschel lived in Montgomery, and he worked for the VFW, the American Legion. He served 20 times… 25 times as the guardian for the World War II veterans on the Honor Flight Chicago. He did fundraising for more programs than I can even list on the Resolution. He was instrumental in bringing the Vietnam memorial wall to Aurora and Oswego, along with being instrumental in the traveling Middle East Conflicts Wall of Honor to Illinois, the first trip outside its home state. And that Mid East Conflict Wall was very moving for the veterans that served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and it's a fitting memorial to those that we have lost in that conflict as well. He was a leader of the Fox Valley Breakfast Club. So, he passed away in Charlotte, Tennessee after recently moving there at age 75. He is survived by his wife, Eva, sons, grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and several other family members. And so, this is a befitting tribute to an individual who was dubbed 'Mr. Veteran' in our local newspaper. And with permission from the Body, I would move that all Members be added to this Resolution. And I would appreciate your support. And I believe Representative Wheeler has comments to add."

Herschel Luckinbill was a friend of everyone's, but he was truly a friend of veterans and veteran causes. He had an ability to keep veterans front and center in our community like no one else could. And all the things that Representative Kifowit had mentioned that he had done was in great collaboration with so many people. I was really proud to have him as a constituent of mine because he had no fear, by the way, of reaching out to ask for support for those adventures. And when you realized some of the scope of his imagination and his vision for how to keep veterans celebrated in our community, it was beyond scale for what most of us could imagine. And the fact that he brought The Moving Wall for Vietnam to our community, practically twice, is befitting of the fact that there were tens of thousands of people there each time. He was really a tremendous person to be around.
