"Attorney General John Cassidy was extremely proud when his son, John, Jr. won a seat in the Illinois General Assembly in 1964. There are still nine Members of this General Assembly that served with John Cassidy, Jr., and they are also Co-sponsors of this Resolution. He served as Attorney General from 1938 to 1941. He was a loyal friend, a wise counselor and a tough opponent. And for all those who recall him, he'll be sorely missed. We extend our sympathy to the John Cassidy family."

"Mr. Speaker, Members of the House, Bill O'Connell, who is a veteran political observer on the Springfield scene and has been for the last 30 years wrote a tribute to John Cassidy, Sr. last Tuesday in which he said, 'Over the course of a lifetime, much of it spent in the close observation of politics and government, a rare few folks make a lasting impression.' I would say to that lead paragraph in the tribute to John E. Cassidy, Sr. that no truer words were spoken. John Cassidy, even though he was of the opposite political persuasion than I, made his mark on the Peoria community, certainly, and on the state as... and at the large, having served, as Representative Saltsman said, as our Attorney General from 1938 to 1941. John Cassidy was a fine man, a family man, an able individual who contributed a great deal not only to his family and community, but also to all of us as a dedicated public servant in the State of Illinois. He also sent to this Body a son who was junior, John E. Cassidy, Jr., who some of us know quite well. Some of us served with him. I didn't have the opportunity to serve in this Body with 7 STATE OF ILLINOIS 83RD GENERAL ASSEMBLY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TRANSCRIPTION DEBATE 97th Legislative Day March 29, 1984 Jack, but I did serve with Jack as a member of the Park Board in Peoria for a number of years and found him to carry on the heritage that his dad set for him. Both the Jack Cassidys or John Cassidys were fine public servants, and I think it's truly appropriate that we commend both of them, but truly his dad, with the honor in which we bestow on him today. And I would join Representative Saltsman in moving for the adoption of this Resolution."

"As you know, Simeon High School, who is the Illinois State Champs, basketball champs, I had arranged for them to be here with us this morning to receive a Resolution and be introduced to the General Assembly, and for some unknown reason, their bus has been tied up on the road somewhere. They must go four blocks to a grammar school tc practice. And with adversities, they are now the champs of Illinois in basketball. What is so unusual about Simeon High School is not only are they the champs in basketball, but they also are the state champs in football. So they are also the Illinois football champs. If that is not enough, they are also the Illinois baseball champs. So we have a three crown winning school in Illinois... in Illinois - baseball, football and now basketball. I'm just so sorry that for some unknown reason, unknown to me, that the bus has been delayed and they cannot make it here before we adjourn. I had arranged for them to be here. Also I have arranged a luncheon for them at the State House Inn... I'm sorry, the Mansion View... at the Mansion View where we will have lunch together and then pictures and tour the Capitol here in Springfield and then back to Chicago. With that, Mr. Speaker, I appreciate the time that you have given me in this matter. We will proceed to give them the Resolutions later, and thank you for your time."
