I serve as the Chairman of the State Public Pension Committee and also as the Vice Chairman of the Assembly Education Committee. And...I feel that if Gorbechev and Bush can get together and settle the differences between those two countries, it's about time the people of Wisconsin and the people of Illinois get together and share ideas because we all have a common goal and that is to improve the quality of life of our constituents. "Ladies and Gentlemen of the House, with me this morning are twenty-nine members of the Berea Ag Club, a 4-H Club from Morgan County Illinois. These young people this morning had a very unusal experiment. On the north side of the Centennial Building, you'll find a new flower garden that has been planted by the members of this club. The unusal quality of this...flower garden is that the seeds are literally from outer space. The club planted seeds that were taken on a shuttle mission, traveled ten days in a shuttle mission around the earth and the seeds that are planted in this special flower garden are a comparison from seeds that stayed on earth from the very same lot. They...the members of this 4-H club arranged for obtaining those seeds and have since...started to grow them in a 3 STATE OF ILLINOIS 86th GENERAL ASSEMBLY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TRANSCRIPTION DEBATE 124th Legislative Day June 5, 1990 horticultural division of the University of Illinois and then after the plants were started, this morning planted those flowers, including...Senator Dirkson's favorite marigols. Planted those flowers just north of the Centennial Building.
