Because I believe this is the first Death Resolution of a former Member in this General Assembly, for those Members who are new Members, this is a tradition that we have had for former Members, who pass on in this House, and the tradition is that we adjourn after the adoption of a Resolution, and we honor Members of the House in that way. Henry Klosak was...a man that I knew for a long, long time. He was a Member who...who served in this House 6 STATE OF ILLINOIS 88th GENERAL ASSEMBLY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TRANSCRIPTION DEBATE 19th Legislative Day March 2, 1993 probably before most of. us even arrived. He was very symbolic of the way this Legislature is, a man who came from a community who was a simple man. He was a lawyer. He was active in his community. He came to the Legislature, and he participated in the legislative process and he, as a matter of fact, ended his career as Assistant Minority Leader. Henry Klosak, when he left the General Assembly, went back to his community and became a mayor and was a mayor for 12 years. ...What I always will remember I remember two things about Henry Klosak. One is that, he was a man who...who believed in limited government. He was a true conservative. He often told me that his job was not to pass legislation in the Illinois General Assembly, but rather to oppose it. Whether you agree with that philosophy or not, Henry was that type of person, and he believed strongly in it. I think the other thing that I remember about Henry Klosak is that he was a man who was part of another era, a man who went through a political organization, rose from precinct captain to justice of the peace to State Legislature. That's not very common any more and those days are long past. There's something to be said for that kind of...a way of moving up the political ladder, and Henry embodied what, I believe, was the best in public service. He was a very kind man. He was a family man, and he will be remembered fondly by many people who knew him. Thank you, Madam Speaker, and I would ask the indulgence of the Speaker and I know Representative Daniels is the lead Sponsor, but if we could have all Members added as Co-Sponsors to this Resolution."

March 2, 1993 "Thank you, Madam Speaker, Ladies and Gentlemen of the House. Those of us who served with Henry Klosak and knew him knew him as a strong person, strong in his beliefs, strong in his will and strong in his leadership. He served with distinction in the Illinois House, and he served with distinction as mayor of his hometown. Those of us who followed his career after he left the General Assembly that knew he was a mayor in Illinois that was listened to by all the mayors in the State of Illinois, frequently sought his consultation and frequently, at times, even if we didn't seek it, we got it because he knew what was important for the people of his city and the people of the State of Illinois. It was my pleasure to have served with him in the Illinois General Assembly. I learned a lot from him, and I'll carry that with me throughout my legislative career, but more importantly, he believed that government should do for people the things that they could not do for themselves. He exemplified that in his life. He carried it through in his career in the Legislature and in the City of Cicero. So, Madam Speaker, Ladies and Gentlemen of the House, he represented a fine tradition in this General Assembly, and he leaves us and goes to his rewards now with the recognition that Henry Klosak made the General Assembly work, made the people of his district proud of him, and I was proud to serve with him. Thank you very much."
