The Resolution, if agreed to by the Senate, would name the old State of Illinois Building at 160 North LaSalle in honor of Michael Bilandic. Michael Bilandic is a former Mayor of the City of Chicago, who served with distinction on our state’s highest court. In addition to being a distinguished justice, he was also the Chief Judge of the Illinois Supreme Court. He’s a man who gave many, many, many years of his life to public service. And I hope I will have your support for honoring him by naming this important state building in his name. I’d be happy to answer your questions and I’d appreciate your support for the Resolution.”

As Zeke told it, Rockford might have been the biggest city in the state and if it wasn’t quite the biggest, it certainly had the second largest school system, the second largest park system, the second largest everything else going in the State of Illinois. He was much respected, much admired, much honored by his then colleagues and he worked very hard on issues that mattered not just to people across Illinois, but especially those in the City of Rockford and its environs. This Resolution would designate a highway, I-39, from where it begins in Winnebago County to its intersection with Interstate 88 as the E. J. ‘Zeke’ Giorgi Highway. This would be a fitting memorial to someone who gave his life, gave his all to this institution and to the people of Illinois. I’d appreciate your support for adoption of this Resolution.”
