"I thank you, Mr. Speaker and Ladies and Gentlemen of the House. I certainly appreciate the order in here. And I'm sure the young people that are with us today think it's like that all the time. But… it's a great honor and a pleasure to recognize the St. Rita High School varsity football team, which won the 7A state championship last year. St. Rita has a long tradition of both excellence in the classroom as well as on the athletic fields, and this year they've made it all the way to the top and became the second state champion in St. Rita history, joining the 1978 team that was also fortunate enough to win the state championship. The team ended up with a 13 and 1 record. During the playoffs they won their first three games by a total score of 114 to 41. They beat Providence Catholic in the semifinal, and then went on to beat Lake Zurich in the championship game for the 7A championship. So, I'm glad he's up in the Speaker's gallery 'cause he can’t tell ya what a wonderful player I was, but it's a great pleasure. If you list the names, I can't read all the names 'cause there were ninety-one (91) kids who were called up to enjoy this experience. I think that was a wonderful move by coach Kuska to do that, but I'll just mention one name 'cause it was the first name listed: Matthew Carney was one of the players on the team. I'm not playing favorites, but he is my nephew. But I also wanna… I also wanna thank Representative Flowers, who St. Rita High School is actually located in her legislative district, but she was nice enough to give me the opportunity to host a team, and to be the Chief Sponsor of this Resolution. Some of the other cosponsors of the Resolution I wanna mention because we didn’t have room on the board because of the title up there, but I'm very grateful to Representative Brosnahan and Joyce, Speaker Madigan, Representative Flowers, Representative Burke, who I don't see here today, but he's actually an alum of St. Rita. I was also joined by Representative Joe Lyons and Mike McAuliffe, Representative Saviano, Representative D'Amico, Representative Bradley. "Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Ladies and Gentlemen of the House. I also, too, would like to join Representative McCarthy in welcoming the men of St. Rita football to Springfield by their good leader, at the age of thirty-four (34) winning a state championship as a head coach is pretty phenomenal feat and Todd Kuska, his long-time assistant and I think probably best friend, John Nee, is known in circles not only outside… not only in St. Rita High School, but outside of St. Rita High School through junior colleges and colleges. Everyone knows him, anyone who knows him as a great football mind. But Kevin mentioned Coach Jack Quinn, who has been a force in so many young people's lives, going from the communities of Canaryville, and Bridgeport, Visitation, Little Flower, St. Cajetan, St. Rita, all the grammar schools and so many people's lives he's affected and so many coaches that he has coached that have an impact on young men's lives today.
