It was a constituent that came to me last fall and asked about putting the empty chair memorial for prisoners of war and missing-in-action in the first floor of the Capitol, and the Secretary of State's Office was very good and obliged, and it's a fine display downstairs, and I hope people get a chance to see it. But we kind of rededicated it today, and a number of my colleagues on both the House and Senate side were there, and the Governor as well. But this started just a few short years ago as a national movement to recognize our 92 thousand American soldiers who have been unaccounted for since World War 1. And this story was really brought home to me last fall, when a soldier that… whose plane went down in 1969 in South Vietnam, they were unable to get in to the wreckage, and recover the bodies. Fast forward 46 years. They got in to the wreckage, and through advanced technology and DNA sampling, identified the remains of Kenneth Cunningham, and he was brought home last fall to a grand ceremony and a proper burial, 46 years after his death. That’s why these chairs are so important. We cannot forget our prisoners of war and missing in action, for the service… and ultimate sacrifice that they gave for their country, and as hope for the family that someday these people will be returned back to our country. So we have the Olney Chapter that… that put the chair in the first floor. They're doing it throughout southern Illinois, and other chapters will be doing it throughout the state, as a way of… of our constant reminder to our men and women who have been unaccounted for. And I ask with, Mr. Speaker, without objection, that all Members be added to this Resolution."
