"Okay. I think everyone in here, nearly everyone, is a Friend of Agriculture Award winner over the years. And this year the Illinois Farm Bureau is celebrating their 100th birthday. And you think of all the changes that have happened in agriculture over the last one hundred years; it's… it’s truly astounding. And when a group of farmers met at the University of Illinois back in 1916 to start discussing important issues facing Illinois farming communities… just as much as things have changed, things haven't changed… they wanted to discuss the importance of quality education, resourceful avenues for information collecting and distribution, and more effective and innovative farming practices, just as important today as they were back in 1916. Two out of every three farmers are Farm Bureau members. They've advocated for public policy for agriculture, insurance for farmers, both life insurance, health insurance, and property and casualty insurance. They formed a purchasing co-op to allow farmers to buy their inputs at better, cheaper prices, financial planning for farmers. Everyone here is well aware of the Ag in the Classroom program that reaches over 500 thousand… 500 thousand yeah, students each year on the importance of agriculture and the fact that their food comes from a farmer, not from Meijer grocery, or Dominick's, or whatever.
